Third interview in Famous10 section belongs to Simona Borstnar, second (and best) half of Studio Tavci Tattoo (http://www.tavci-tattoo.si). She is not just great tattooer but also an amazing artist. Her drawings and paintings will get your full attention and made you wonder, how much talent can one person really develop in such a short amount of time.
Here is your chance to spend some time with her.
Famous10
UranianWilly: If you weren’t a tattoo artist, what would you be and why?
Simona: All I know is that it would have to be something creative. I have a diploma in graphic design so that would probably be the path I’d go… I would also love to illustrate some books. If I could choose, I would make a living by drawing, because that’s the thing I enjoy most, drawing whatever I want or feel, just for myself and not for a specific client. And why? Because art keeps me sane, it’s my passion and my escape.
UranianWilly: If I was to turn on your music player right now, what 3 artists/songs would I see on your recently played list?
Simona: Evanescence – not just recently played, but continuously played over and over again since the moment I first heard their music about 10 years ago. They are one of my biggest inspirations because I can really relate to their lyrics and their music makes me feel like I’m not alone, you know, everyone goes through not only good, but bad things too. Every time I see them live I cry like a little baby and nothing can stop me. 😀
The other two artists that I also play on repeat are The Pretty Reckless and Korn.
UranianWilly: If you had a chance to bring one person back from the dead, who would it be and why?
Simona: I am lucky enough to have all my loved ones still with me, so I would say Alexander Mcqueen, who was an amazing fashion designer. He was such an inspiration to me, and still is.
“I think there is beauty in everything. What ‘normal’ people would perceive as ugly, I can usually see something of beauty in it.” – Alexander Mcqueen
UranianWilly: What is the most trouble you’ve ever gotten into and did you learn anything from it?
Simona: Of course, everyone goes through some trouble in life… and the most important thing is that you learn from your mistakes no matter how bad they are.
UranianWilly: What three things you regret not learning to do?
Simona: I’m not sure I regret not learning to do anything specific… There’s however a lot of different techniques I really want to learn as an artist, like painting for example.
UranianWilly: What do you like most about tattoo art and tattooing?
Simona: First of all, I love how tattooing came into my life, totally unexpected as Saso introduced it to me and now I really enjoy it. It’s an honour when a person decides to get tattooed by you because that means he likes your work so much he’s ready to have it on his body forever! I especially enjoy doing tattoos of my personal drawings, it’s a feeling I can’t even describe, to have a person who is ready to have your artwork on him forever, not something he ordered me to draw, but a drawing I made for myself, to express my feelings and emotions at a specific moment, and he feels so connected to it – it’s the most amazing feeling ever!
I also love my amazing clients, I’ve met so many awesome people in my short period of tattooing… it just amazes me how kind and supportive they are, and it gives me such joy to see them satisfied with my work.
UranianWilly: Do you believe there is intelligent life in the Universe?
Simona: No idea whatsoever.
UranianWilly: What 3 adjectives would you use to describe your personality (even the weirdest or funny example)?
Simona: I guess I could say I’m a perfectionist since I’m never completely satisfied with my work… other than that I’m really forgettable, I usually keep forgetting my client’s faces if I run into them in the street or at the local store, as I met them in a such short period of time. And when they say hi to me, I feel really bad and embarrassed because I can’t remember them. I usually remember them after they show me their tattoo. 😀
UranianWilly: What’s your motto or the advice you live by?
Simona: Keep doing your own thing. Whatever you do and no matter how good you are at doing it, there will always be someone who won’t like it – whether someone thinks you aren’t good at what you do, or just because of jealousy (which is extremely typical for our little country), either way, you should not care about their opinion and keep doing what you love, if it makes you happy.
UranianWilly: Ten years from now you will be where or what?
Simona: I have absolutely no idea, hopefully I can continue doing what I love most and trying to learn every single day as I do now. Overall I just hope to be happy, no matter where or what.
